Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) - potential impacts of the Transport (Scotland) Bill on the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010

Section 149 of the Equality Act 2010 sets out a ‘public sector equality duty’ focused around eliminating discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity and fostering good relations between people with specific ‘protected characteristics’ (i.e. demographic attributes), as defined in the Act.

The Islands (Scotland) Act 2018 seeks to increase economic prosperity for island communities. Section 13 of the Act requires the Scottish Ministers to undertake an Island Communities Impact Assessment where a plan or strategy is likely to have significantly different effects on an island community than other communities.

The consultation report sets out the range of consultation activities that has been undertaken and how views have been taken into account during the development of the National Transport Strategy. This fulfils the requirements in the Transport (Scotland) Act to report on the consultation process.

National forecasts of the renewable electricity and hydrogen that will be needed to support the transport sector play its part in meeting climate change targets.

The report is an analytical report, updating on the baseline position of measures which track the progress of the National Transport Strategy. As such, the report will include statistical information which will be represented in tables, graphs and graphics.
