Project case study - Bring your child to work day 2019
Inspiring the next generation of construction professionals is imperative to ensuring that we have the top calibre of young people entering the industry to deliver the exciting engineering projects of the future.
Many people in the construction industry have followed in the footsteps of their family members to take on roles within civil engineering and construction. For many young children, when their parents leave in the morning to go to work, what they do as a job is a total mystery.
The A9 Dualling: Luncarty to Pass of Birnam project team took part in Perth and Kinross Council’s annual ‘Bring your child to work’ day in 2019.
The event offered parents the opportunity to bring their children in to their place of work and show them what they do for a living and share their passion with them.
Five children came to the site to learn more about the dualling project and to see what life is like working on a major infrastructure construction project.
Ken Brown, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager for the project, arranged several Science, Technology, Engineering and Math’s (STEM) based activities for the children, as well as a tour of the construction site.
I really enjoyed the opportunity to share my passion with my daughter and show her what I do every day while she is at school. Giving her the experience of being on such a significant infrastructure project at a young age has hopefully inspired her to think about what she would like to do when she is older.”
