National Transport Strategy - Equality Impact Assessment
Section 149 of the Equality Act 2010 sets out a ‘public sector equality duty’ focused around eliminating discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity and fostering good relations between people with specific ‘protected characteristics’ (i.e. demographic attributes), as defined in the Act. To implement the duty public bodies need to undertake an Equalities Impact Assessment (EqIA) process to assess any likely different or disproportionate impacts from their actions on the protected characteristics.
