This Strategic Approach is the core element of the Islands Connectivity Plan and proposes our overall strategic approach to island transport connectivity, including ferries, aviation and fixed links. It sets a Vision and four Priorities, each supported by Outcomes for the future ferry services in Scotland.

The Islands Connectivity Plan sets out the Scottish Government's long-term objectives and policies for ensuring necessary and sustainable transport links for our islands. The Vessels and Ports Plan is one of the key elements delivering those objectives for the Clyde & Hebrides and Northern Isles networks.

The publication provides a broad range of transport statistics including road vehicles, traffic, casualties, bus and rail passengers, road and rail freight, air and water transport and personal travel.

This publication presents findings from the Scottish Household Survey about disability and transport, as well as figures from various sources on indicators for the Accessible Travel Framework.

This report highlights the key themes from the feedback that was captured from the user survey, engagement events, and from other correspondence received.

Following publication of the independent Community Needs Assessment report for Cowal and Rosneath on 11 September 2024, and review of the user survey and key local stakeholder and community engagement outcomes, Transport Scotland have recommended to remove 3 return sailings a day, out of the 30 currently scheduled, on the Gourock-Dunoon ferry service.
