Section 149 of the Equality Act 2010 sets out a ‘public sector equality duty’ focused around eliminating discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity and fostering good relations between people with specific ‘protected characteristics’ (i.e. demographic attributes), as defined in the Act.

The Islands (Scotland) Act 2018 seeks to increase economic prosperity for island communities.
