A9/A96 Inshes to Smithton

As part of the Scottish Government’s commitment in the £315 Million Inverness and Highland City Region Deal, Transport Scotland is progressing plans for a single carriageway road connecting Inshes to Smithton in Inverness.

A9 Helmsdale to Ord of Caithness Improvements Phase 2

Project

This project involves the construction of 2.1 kilometres of 6 metre-wide single carriageway, with 1 metre hard strips and a minimum soft verge width of 1.65 metres. At the northern end of the scheme, a 280 metre-long 10 metre-wide climbing lane has been provided.

A9 Kessock Bridge Resurfacing

Project

The Kessock Bridge opened to traffic in 1982. It is a cable stayed bridge and carries the A9 dual carriageway trunk road across the Beauly Firth at Inverness.

A9 Moy 2+1 Improvements and Maintenance

Project

This project is now complete. It involved the construction of a new 1.06km northbound overtaking lane, with associated drainage, surfacing and safety fencing improvements.

A9 Portgower Mill Bridge Replacement

Project

Contractors replaced the old twin pipe culvert structure with a new single span bridge, designed to modern standards. The works included localised road widening.

Dundee Station Redevelopment

Project

Dundee City Council is substantially refurbishing Dundee station passenger facilities at a cost of £38 million as part of its Waterside Development. A key driver in the station development is the high profile opening of the adjacent Victoria and Albert Museum, scheduled for 2018. The project is on target for summer 2018 completion.
