Carbon Account for Transport No. 6: 2014 Edition

The sixth edition of the Carbon Account for Transport provides the annual detailed update on Scotland’s transport emissions performance up to 2012, and likely impact of new infrastructure projects on future emissions. 

A short series of infographics have been published alongside the main report.

Transport emissions as a share of total Scottish emissions (2012): Total emissions 52.9 MtCO2e, Transport 12.9 MtCO2e, Transport emissions =24% of all Scottish emissions. MtCo2e=million tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent

Reduction in transport emissions in Scotland since 2007: 2007 14.84MtCO2e, 2008 14.36MtCO2e, 2009 13.75MtCO2e, 2010 13.9MtCO2e, 2011 13.08MtCO2e, 2012MtCO2e. Absolute change 2007-2012 -1.93MtCO2e

Change in emissions by key transport mode 2011-2012: Air -2.2%, HGV +4.0%, Car -0.5% 

Breakdown of transport emissions by mode 1990-2012: 1990 13.1MtCO2e - Public Transport 4.4%, Cars 44.2%, HGV 22%, Marine 20%, Air 9.4%. 2012 12.9MtCO2e - Public Transport 5.9%, Cars 40%, HGV 28.1%, Marine 13%, Air 28.1%.
