A9 Pass of Birnam to Tay Crossing

The 8.4km section of the A9 from Pass of Birnam to Tay Crossing is being upgraded to dual carriageway as part of a wider programme to improve the A9 between Perth and Inverness. Following the conclusion of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) Stage 3 design development and assessment of the preferred route, draft Orders for the proposed scheme have been published on 30 May 2025, alongside an Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR), for public consultation. The estimated outturn scheme cost range for the proposed scheme is £427-486m at April 2023 prices.
